Texan women are most affected by breast cancer and have among the highest number of new cervical cancer cases in the country. Health in My Hands program offers a community-health worker-led education sessions on breast and cervical cancer and navigate all women in need to affordable or free mammograms, HPV vaccines and Pap/HPV tests services. We are fully funded by the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) and therefore everything we offer is free of charge.

We start by identifying women in need by attending events, doing outreach in high-traffic walkways or briefly sharing information about our program at the beginning of set-group meetings. We can offer our 1-hour breast and cervical cancer education to anyone interested in attending – in-person, virtually or by phone. We navigate all women in need by phone, after their education sessions.

This program was original developed for Hispanic women, and we are excited to have received funding to adapt it for non-Hispanic as well. We are inviting women 18yrs and older to participate in group or one-on-one interviews to share their experiences with breast and cervical cancer screenings and HPV vaccinations. Participant feedback will help us tailor our materials and ensure they are culturally relevant. All participants will get a $20 gift card for their time.
